What a Weekend! Some pics of the scenes captured!

Wow! Some weekends just stand apart from the others when it comes to a successful outing with the camera. This past weekend was no different as I scored numerous bolts and really amazing scenes. I’ve got too much material to pour through and honestly, the volume is beginning to get to me in a daunting sort of way.

Regardless, Saturday was my only outing of the weekend (unless you count a Pitbull -!!!- concert on Sunday) — and what a day it was!

Models pointed towards the Socorro – Truth or Consequences area for most of the day with the few remaining storms actually persisting north of there closer to Belen. Obs agreed with this overall approach as dews and satellite showed some weak attempts at storms to the west but more robust/widespread development south of me in Albuquerque.

I spent much of the day capturing beautiful time lapses and then for a magical hour or so in the evening it was a bolt bonanza as two different storms had a fiesta in the evening light. Incredible bolts danced across the skies, mixing in incredible colors that only storm light can provide.

This cell had a small/dense core and packed quite an electric punch. I shot this pretty wide so this cell actually was a lot closer to me than it looked. I’ve yet to process the time-lapse of this scene but I would not be surprised if it ends up being one of my favorites from the summer.
I took this black-and-white not far from Elephant Butte, New Mexico. Look at this view! It looks like another planet. This state is so cool, it keeps finding ways to surprise me.
One of my favorite scenes of the summer thus far. This merging area had a gigantic gravel parking area and I took advantage and set up the camera to capture traffic, storm clouds, and bolts all happening. As a bonus the sun peaked under the clouds creating rays as well. Really, this was a top notch job on a time-lapse!
Several frames had more than one bolt in them. For only shooting at just under 1 second intervals, this is a pretty impressive feat. These storms were really hot with lightning.
One of my final shots of the day. This is going to be a time-lapse to remember I think as well, though I honestly was trying to get ready to go. I need to remember NOT to do that next time. And to be honest, I should’ve stayed another 30 minutes or more shooting bolts.
